Welcome to the School 21 homepage. This is the place to discover interesting and helpful information about our great school.

At School 21 we strive to provide a learning environment for students that focuses on academic skills as well as emotional and social skills. We expect our students to work hard everyday. We believe in courtesy, collaboration, and compassion.

Mr. Hughes Honored As YWCA Man of The Year

On Sunday, June 12, 2011 many staff members and family of Mr. Hughes attended the Celebrity Chef event sponsored by the YWCA. Mr. Hughes was honored as one of there Men of The Year. He was cited for his dedication against racism and equal rights for all citizens, It was a proud day for School 21. Mr. Hughes received commendations from Mayor Amicone and countless other elected officials. Mr. Hughes also cooked a dish for the event. The recipe that he used is as follows:
 
Sweet Potato Mash
 
Ingredients
 
25 pounds of sweet potatoes
2 apples (Any Kind)
1 bag of baby carrots
1 large onion
1/2 lb. I Can't Believe It's Not Butter
1 pt. Fat Free Sour Cream
1/2 pt. Fat Free Cream Cheese
1 Cup Vermont Maple Syrup
1/4 cup of hot sauce (Why not?)
 
Directions
Wash, trim peel, and chop the potatoes apples, and onions (Put them in a huge pot)
Chop the baby carrots and toss them in the pot
Fill the pot with all the water that it can hold
Put a low light on the burner for one hour: watching for any sign of boiling
After the water boils check potatoes with a fork for softness
When you are satisfied strain the pot at the sink
 
Add the sour cream, fake butter, cream cheese, hot sauce, and maple syrup and begin mashing
 
Prep time- 6 hours
 
The crowd loved the dish and not a drop was left!
